Ken Klein has been skiing Mammoth Mountain for 20 years since being assigned to the Naval Dental Clinic in Long Beach. He retired from the Navy in 1993 and practiced Periodontics in Los Alamitos until fully retiring from dental practice in 2004. This coincided with his wife, Susie's, retirement from teaching 2nd grade, and they moved from Huntington Beach to Mammoth Lakes that summer. He has been involved as a volunteer with disabled sports programs since 1994 and is a PSIA Level 1 Certified Adaptive (Bi-ski) instructor. In addition to being a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, Ken has an MBA (Healthcare) from UC Irvine. He has a passion for outdoor activities and thoroughly enjoys biking, hiking, running and skiing in the beautiful Eastern Sierra.

Rick Taylor is the traveling member of the Board. His primary residence is in the Los Angeles area and he built his second home in Mammoth in 2000. Rick moved to California from Canada in 1982 and first came to Mammoth in 1983. Mammoth is a very special place to Rick because he met his wife, Shelley, here in 1990 and they have three children.
Rick owns a commercial electrical contracting business in Los Angeles that specializes in fire alarm system installation. Although this keeps him very busy down south he has his own airplane and makes the one hour hop to Mammoth as often as he can. "There is no place on this earth I'd rather be than Mammoth, winter or summer. Volunteering with the DSES Board just gives me one more excuse to get up here, even if its just for a Board Meeting." He loves to ski and has found summers are now too short for all the activities Mammoth offers "après ski".
"Mammoth is a very special place to me for many reasons. I am proud that I can give something back to the community. When you see the smiles these volunteers put on people's faces it will just tug at your heart strings."

Allegra Stevens has been a financial professional for the last twenty years. She obtained a BS in Technical Management from Regis University in Denver, Colorado, after which she went on to the University of Colorado and finished her graduate studies in Accounting and was awarded an MS degree in Accounting. She passed the CPA exam in 1993.
Allegra has worked in various industries including banking, technology manufacturing and resort/hotels. In 2004, she went to work for a public accounting firm in California where she obtained auditing and accounting experience with not-for-profit organizations. In 2006, she started her own practice where she specialized in tax preparation and planning for individuals and businesses, as well as providing accounting services for small business.
Allegra enjoys an active life in Mammoth Lakes with her husband, Ron, and their Great Pyrenees, Campy. Their favorite hobbies are cycling, skiing and traveling.

Karilyn Meyers is a Physical Therapist and manages the Rehabilitation department at Mammoth Hospital. She received her Master's degree in P.T. from Stanford University and has lived and practiced physical therapy in Mammoth for 27 years. Her job as a physical therapist is helping people to restore movement and function so DSES's mission is right in line with her work and professional beliefs. "Many of DSES's local students receive therapy services at our hospital and we see DSES as an extension of the rehabilitation process in restoration of activity, recreation and sport. The positive effect this has on quality of life is evident in the new attitude and the smiles that outdoor recreation can bring." Karilyn enjoys giving back to the community and is interested in program development.

EL Smoogen retired from General Electric Flight Test as Manager of Engineering in 1999 and moved to Mammoth the next year. EL and his wife Pat both find volunteerism very rewarding. El is a multifaceted volunteer for DSES, teaching lessons and working on many equipment adaptations and improvements. He is a valuable fundraiser and contributor. He is very involved in the program and was Volunteer of the Year in 2004-05. Besides volunteering for DSES and being a volunteer firefighter for the Mammoth Lakes Fire Department, he enjoys being a runner, hiker and biker.

Rick Wood has been a practicing attorney for 32 years, including 18 years in Mammoth Lakes. He served on the Mammoth Lakes Town Council from 1998 through 2006, including 5 years as Mammoth's Mayor. He is an avid marathon runner as well as ski enthusiast. He has actively participated as a parent-advocate and speaker at numerous California and national special needs and self-determination conferences. His son, Davis, age 14, has been a participant in DSES winter and summer programs for many years, and is a demonstrable example of the positive impact of DSES on participants' quality of life.

Kathy Copeland moved from Vermont to Mammoth in 1971 and has done lots of living there! She has worked for Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort for 29 years starting as a bus girl and ending up as the manager of the Children's Ski School. In 1976 she volunteered at the first Winter Special Olympics held at Mammoth and has stayed involved every year since then. She's currently certified to instruct skiing at all levels and snowboarding to beginners. Kathy is also certified to teach skiing to people who are developmentally disabled and also to the visually impaired. Her energy and devotion to helping others makes her a great addition to Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra.
