January 6-8 Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra hosted our first Paralympic Sport Camp of the winter season, a Nordic Ski and Race Camp. This event was a huge success! We had eleven athletes with physical and/or visual disabilities who developed and improved their cross country skiing and racing skills. It was a diverse group with seven athletes who skied in sit-down equipment and 4 athletes who skied standing.

Multi-Paralympic medalist, Candace Cable from Truckee, California, and former USSA Head Nordic Ski Coach, Jon Kreamelmeyer from Colorado came in to help coach our athletes. We had a blast on the excellent groomed track toward Minaret Vista maintained by the staff of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area with Ueli Luethi's expertise.

Thanks to the hard work of our dedicated core of Nordic Skiing volunteer instructors and our fabulous coaches, all of our athletes showed tremendous improvement throughout this sunny weekend of Nordic Skiing and are committed to chasing excellence in this Paralympic Sport.

In 2009 we became a Paralympic Sport Club with an additional mission to raise awareness of and introduce new athletes to Paralympic Sports. The Paralympics are a parallel set of games, immediately following the Olympic games, in which athletes with physical and/or visual disabilities compete for gold.
