DSES hosts Moonlight BBQ
at the Minaret Vista!

On the way to Minaret Vista - Ken Klein Photo

On Saturday, April 23rd, about 25 people braved the cold to hike from DSES up to the Minaret Vista, for hotdogs and kielbasas. After a presentation from Kathy, where she explained some of the visions for the future, one of our own students, Terry Smutney, told how coming to DSES has given him a new lease on life. After we all dried our eyes from his powerful narration, we watched a video of Grant Dewey, another student extraordinaire, bi-skiing through the half-pipe, hitting boxes and rails!

Once it was time to don the cross country skis and snowshoes, we all trekked up the mile long trail, where our chef, Thalia Hanson, was waiting with steaming hot food! Toasts and speeches were made, and very generous donations came our way. Special thanks to Shelley and Rick Taylor, for their wonderful donation of a brand new Mountain Man bi-ski, and to Steve Ascher and his business partner Tony Jordan, for donating the money for our brand new sign outside of the Woollywood building! We raised a lot of money that night and want to thank all those who helped to make this night happen. DSES also would like to thank Jim Cox for co-sponsoring the Moonlight BBQ.

Another special guest who made it to our little soiree was Jimmy Bohart, who helped DSES to get a $16,000 grant from the Educational Foundation of America last year. A long time friend to one of our super volunteers, Johnny Goetz, Jimmy has been essential in helping our program strengthen and grow. Thanks Jimmy for coming out!

Thank you to all who helped to make that night the awesome event that it was! DSES loves their volunteers!

Thanks to Ken Klein for the photos of that night.
