Disability Statistics
Disabilities make it harder to take part in normal daily activities. They may limit what you can do physically or mentally, or they can affect your senses. Disability doesn't mean unable, and it isn't a sickness. Most people with disabilities can - and do - work, play, learn, and enjoy full healthy lives. Mobility aids and assistive devices can make all the difference.

DO GOOD - FEEL GOOD
Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra is successful because of many people and organizations.
Training
Our volunteer instructors work with a wide variety of disabilities. Teaching our students to ski or snowboard in the winter requires using many specialized skills. Our summer programs also require specialized knowledge.
We provide training for our volunteers that enables them to work with the special needs of each student in a way that ensures that the student has fun in a safe way.
Winter Training
Our exciting and informative winter training provides skill development in a variety of areas: including DSES winter operations, ski and snowboard skills development and instruction, disabilities information and much more.
Our Start-Up training program is the "must have" training for all new and returning instructors - giving you the skills needed to work with our unique population of students. New this year, we have two Start-Up training agendas depending on your instructing experience and your availability. For more information and to find out which to sign up for, check out our Start-Up Agenda.
Additionally, there are fantastic training clinics throughout the season that expand on the material introduced at the Start-Up training and provide the instruction necessary to earn Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) certification. We are lucky to have PSIA examiners and clinicians on staff and in our volunteer pool. They're excited to help all our instructors achieve their potential - so check it out!
Finally, we have a wonderful pool of specialty clinicians that offer training on and off snow for those interested in learning more about teaching specific disabilities, guiding students, the mountain environment or even boot fitting and ski tuning.
Our daily training clinics go from 8:30 AM to 9:15 AM (we leave on time-don't be late!). Additional scheduled half-day and all-day specialty clinics can be found on the Volunteer Training Schedule & Event Calendar.
