What level am I?
Beginner
- You are comfortable skiing/riding on easy (green) terrain.
- You can turn both directions and can ski/ride in control.
- You are familiar with lift loading and unloading procedures.
Novice
- You are comfortable on all easy (green) and some intermediate (blue) terrain.
- Skiers are able to match skis (parallel) for at least part of the turn.
- Borders are able to link turns.
- You prefer slower speeds.
Intermediate
- You are comfortable on all groomed intermediate (blue) terrain and some groomed advanced (black) or easy un-groomed terrain.
- Skiers can make parallel turns with or without a pole plant.
- Boarders can make round symmetrical linked turns.
- You normally make medium radius turns.
- You are comfortable skiing/riding at a moderate speed.
Advanced
- You are comfortable on all groomed terrain and most un-groomed terrain.
- You are comfortable in bumps, powder and firm snow.
- You are able to ski/ride using a variety of turn sizes and at a variety of speeds.
- You are able to maintain speed control as pitch increases.
- You are able to carve for at least part of the turn.
- Skiers use a pole plant all the time.
Expert
- You are comfortable on all in-bounds ski area terrain.
- You are comfortable in all off-piste snow conditions.
- You can easily transition easily through a variety of turn types.
- You can carve through the entire turn and guide an edged ski/board in all turn radii.
- You are able to maintain, increase or decrease speed as terrain dictates.
